Meet The Team
Our education team, the Lulworth Rangers, welcome hundreds of student groups every year – from reception through primary and secondary education to university studies. They are committed to providing high quality, relevant and well-rounded learning experiences. All experts in their own fields, our small team has over 160 years of experience between them and real passion for the benefits of Learning Outside the Classroom. All of our instructors have enhanced DBS checks and relevant First Aid qualifications.
Head Ranger | Maddy
Having spent my childhood on Lulworth’s beaches, it’s hugely rewarding to be able to share this amazing area with others. From formal or experiential teaching to opportune ‘highlights’ that come each day when you’re working alongside nature in the great outdoors.
I’ve been able to conserve the landscape, natural resources and habitats here at Lulworth, balancing those needs with our visitors who’d like to see and experience them. Being a natural water-baby by the sea just puts the icing on the top.
Maddy has the following qualifications:
- BSc Geographical Science
- Diploma in Agronomy, FACTS
- Accredited Practitioner – Institute of Outdoor Learning
Education Ranger | Derry
Coming originally from New Zealand, I have a great affinity with the outdoors and the way they can be used as a medium for not just learning core curriculum subjects, but also as a catalyst in creating the values needed for a sustainable future.
I moved to the UK after living in various localities around the world, but count myself as a very lucky person to be based on the Jurassic Coast, teaching thousands of students every year about the uniqueness of Lulworth and the wider area of Dorset.
I have a passion for geology, fossils and a range of outdoor pursuits that enable me to experience some of the lesser seen areas of the UK.
Derry has the following qualifications:
- Bachelor of Outdoor Education and Adventure Recreation
- NPTC Diploma in Work Based Environmental Conservation
Countryside Ranger | Kirsten
I love the outdoors, but didn’t consider a career in the countryside until later in life. Learning to care for what was on my doorstep when growing up fed a desire to contribute to conserving those habitats I had developed a love for.
This was strengthened by studying Countryside Management at University in my late twenties. Not only does the ‘green gym’ keep me fit, I feel happier that during my lifetime I am doing something useful with a view to a healthier planet.
Kirsten has the following qualifications:
- ND Natural History Illustration
- HND in Countryside Management
