Travelling To Lulworth & Durdle Door

By Road

From Bournemouth/Poole, take the A35 towards Dorchester, taking the left at the Bakers Arms roundabout towards Wareham. Take the A352 from Wareham to Dorchester, from this road you can follow the brown signs for Lulworth Cove/Castle.

Travelling from Dorchester, take the A352 sign posted for Wareham and Wool. At Winfrith Newburgh turn right, following the brown signs for Lulworth Cove.

From a northerly direction, from Bere Regis. On the A35 roundabout follow the white sign for Wool. At the next roundabout, 2nd exit, still following signs for Wool. Go through the village and proceed for five miles. 2nd exit at the next roundabout. Go over the level crossing and left directly after. Follow the brown signs.

For visitors using satellite navigation, postcodes are the following;

  • BH20 5RQ – Lulworth Cove
  • BH20 5PU-Durdle Door
  • BH20 5QS – Lulworth Castle

There is ample Pay & Display parking on sites. Tickets purchased at Lulworth Cove can also be used at Durdle Door – and vice versa.

On Foot

Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door are both on the South West Coast Path, in-between Swanage and Weymouth. There are a network of footpaths that lead onto the Estate from the north.

By Bicycle

The area around Lulworth is known for its rolling countryside which, for the cyclist, means some sharp inclines, rewarded by some effortless declines. No direct cycle routes lead to Lulworth, however, follow the B3070/B3071 into West Lulworth and on to the Cove. There is bicycle parking above Durdle Door, and plans are in place to include a provision at Lulworth Cove for 2020.

By Train

The nearest train stations are Wool and Wareham. These are on the South Western Railway, on the main service which runs between London Waterloo and Weymouth. For further information, click here.

By Local Bus

Four local bus services call at Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, as follows:

  • First service X50, open top bus runs 2-hourly between Weymouth and Swanage, daily from May to September.
  • First service X54, d runs 2-hourly between Weymouth and Wareham Station, daily from May to September (Monday-Friday only in winter months).
  • moreBus Jurassic Breezer 30, runs hourly between Weymouth and Swanage, daily from May to September.
  • moreBus Jurassic Breezer 31, runs hourly in an anti-clockwise circle: Wool Station – Winfrith – Durdle Door – Lulworth Cove – Wool Station, daily from May to September (weekends and school holidays only during April-May and Sept-Nov).

All four local bus services call at Wool Station, the closest bus/rail interchange point for onward travel to Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door.
