This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to begin a career in traditional and modern joinery, working alongside our experienced in-house buildings team. As a Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery Apprentice (Joinery Pathway), you will develop the practical skills and technical knowledge required to become a competent bench joiner. You will learn to manufacture, repair and install a wide range of bespoke timber products while studying towards your nationally recognised apprenticeship qualification with Coastland College.
Working under the guidance of our skilled joiner, you will gain experience producing high-quality joinery for the Estate’s historic buildings, residential properties, commercial premises and visitor facilities.

Throughout the apprenticeship you will develop skills including:
• Safe use of woodworking hand tools and machinery.
• Timber selection and preparation.
• Setting out and marking techniques.
• Manufacturing bespoke joinery components.
• Traditional and modern timber joints.
• Assembly and finishing techniques.
• Installation principles.
• Interpretation of technical drawings.
• Quality assurance and problem solving.
• Health, safety and environmental awareness.
• Professional behaviours expected within the construction industry.
This is a full time role, working 5 days/39 hours per week, with one day per week at college during term time. Applicants must be prepared to commit to your work and training for the duration of the apprenticeship (24 months). You will be required to attend an interview and assessment at Coastland College to ensure you meet the requirements for the apprenticeship.

Key Responsibilities:
- Manufacture bespoke timber products including doors, windows, stair components, gates, cabinetry and fitted furniture.
- Use hand tools and woodworking machinery safely and effectively.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, cutting lists and work specifications.
- Measure, mark out, prepare and assemble timber components accurately.
- Carry out repairs and restoration of traditional timber joinery in heritage buildings.
- Select appropriate materials, fixings and finishes for each project.
- Assist with the installation of manufactured joinery across the Estate where required.
- Learn traditional joinery techniques alongside modern woodworking methods.
- Maintain tools, machinery and workshop equipment in good working order.
- Keep the workshop clean, organised and compliant with health and safety requirements.
- Work safely at all times, following Health & Safety legislation and Estate procedures.
- Develop an understanding of sustainability, responsible timber sourcing and waste reduction.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors and other trades.
- Attend college and complete all apprenticeship coursework, portfolio evidence and assessments.
- Demonstrate professionalism, reliability and a willingness to learn throughout the apprenticeship.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
- GCSE or equivalent English (Grade 4)
- GCSE or equivalent Maths (Grade 4)
